I ran so much that day, my feet were injured for six months

Five months after arriving in Morocco, Ahmed and Fatima become parents to a son named Sikander. Unaware of the requirement to register their child with Moroccan authorities within 30 days, they find themselves in a difficult situation and must go to court to register Sikander.

This article is part of the series From birth certificate to school desk: Overcoming registration hurdles:

  1. Killing one of us is a good deed
  2. I ran so much that day, my feet were injured for six months
  3. I don't know what to do next

Compounding the issue, Ahmed and Fatima never formally married and therefore lack a marriage certificate, a crucial document for registering a birth in Morocco. This video delves into the administrative and legal steps the couple must take to have Sikander's existence formally recognized by state authorities.

In the next blog, we will learn whether Sikander can attend school, continuing to follow the family's journey in navigating their new life in Morocco.
