Killing one of us is a good deed

In this video, we introduce Ahmed and Fatima, a couple from the Ahmadi community in Pakistan. As a religious minority, the Ahmadis face increasing hostility in their home country. The situation becomes dire when shots are fired at Ahmed's home and the couple decides to leave.

This article is part of the series From birth certificate to school desk: Overcoming registration hurdles:

  1. Killing one of us is a good deed
  2. I ran so much that day, my feet were injured for six months
  3. I don't know what to do next

Because of the dangerous environment, Ahmed and Fatima, who are not yet married, quickly marry the night before their departure. Instead of a large wedding or formal marriage, the couple exchange their vows in an intimate ceremony with their family members. This marks the beginning of their migration trajectory, eventually leading them to seek refuge in Morocco.

In the upcoming blogs, we will follow Ahmed and Fatima as they navigate their new life in Morocco, dealing with the challenges of birth registration without a marriage certificate and the process of enrolling in school.
